Ingredients

Scale

For the Ground Beef and Spicy Gravy:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Make the Mashed Potatoes:
    • Boil peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water for 15-20 minutes, or until tender.
    • Drain and return to the pot. Mash with butter and heavy cream until smooth.
    • Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Cover and set aside.
  • Cook the Ground Beef:
    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
    • Remove excess grease if necessary.
  • Add Aromatics:
    • Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic.
    • Sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until softened and fragrant.
  • Make the Spicy Gravy:
    • Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture, stirring to coat evenly.
    • Gradually add beef broth and tomato sauce while stirring to prevent lumps.
    • Stir in Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
    • Simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the gravy thickens.
  • Serve:
    • Spoon the mashed potatoes onto plates.
    • Top with the savory ground beef and spicy gravy mixture.
    • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust the cayenne pepper to your spice tolerance.
  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine to the gravy during cooking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
